Promise Auction

At this year’s fete there there will be a Promise Auction and it is hoped that you may be able to offer a promise involving your time or skill, or some useful object or opportunity, which people can bid for at the Fete. This year you can also put a ‘reserve price’ on your promise – the minimum at which bidding will begin. Examples of the sort of promises offered in previous years are:

Dinner for six delivered to bidder’s home
Lift to and from Bristol Airport
Supply of well-rotted horse manure
Dinner for six delivered to bidder’s home

We will circulate copies of the list of promises before the Fete, to give you a chance to study the opportunities available and, if you wish, submit an advance bid before the day of the Fete.

On the day of the Fete, the promises will be displayed on a large board, and anyone who wants to bid for one or more will be able to state their offer(s) which will be chalked up alongside the item(s) concerned. Other people may subsequently come along and offer higher bids, which are also chalked up. These in turn may be overtaken by still higher bids.

Eventually an announcement will be made of the time when bidding will be stopped. Hopefully this will give other stallholders an opportunity for a quick bid. At the appointed time, each winning bidder will be given an envelope with details of the promise donor in exchange for the bid money. It is then up to the winner to contact the donor and fix up the deal.

We hope this Auction will be good fun as well as a splendid contribution to the funds. Do please assist with a promise if you possibly can. Fill in the attached form and try to let us have it before Sunday 23rd June. Then we will assemble the promises and circulate the list before the Fete.
